The perfect photo equation goes something like this: Perfect couple + Perfect location + perfect light. Oh, and a camera, too. But sometimes that perfect location can be as elusive as the other elements.
So when I heard about the abandoned Tillamook Railroad in the Salmonberry Wilderness of Oregon, I knew it would be an epic shoot. And Rachelle + Nolan agreed.
So in April 2016, I teamed up with Maddy Kay Photography to venture into the Oregon backcountry and make this shoot happen.
The railroad did not disappoint. The Springtime sun filtered low through new leaves, as we roamed this post-apocalyptic, forested scene. We traversed hanging tracks, dark, damp tunnels, and breath-taking trestles that proudly stood hundreds of feet above the creeks below.
It was an odd feeling, at times – instantly falling in love with a place that is slowly being reclaimed by nature. We all appreciated that in just a few years, most of the places we stood may no longer be around. But that’s the deal we make with nature, I guess.
